Identify a current engineering problem and attempt to solve it using biomimicry. Your solution should be
novel, meaning it is a solution/design/product that has not already been invented. For example, mimicking
shark skin to solve the problem of high drag forces while swimming in water is an excellent example of
biomimicry, however this product already exists so you cannot use it for your final report.
Your paper should include the following sections:
Introduction- Give the reader background on the biological concept you are mimicking and the engineering
problem you are attempting to design a solution for using biomimicry. Cite a minimum of 3 sources in this
section.
Design and Implementation- Outline a basic overview of your design. Discuss any resources needed and
potential major challenges to your design and implementation. For example, how would your product be
fabricated? How will you test it? Does it need to be regulated? Cite a minimum of 2 sources in this section.
Impacts- Discuss the significance of your solution/design. Choose three of the four impacts (societal, political,
economic, and environmental) and discuss your design in terms of those impacts. For example, “what societal
impact would your design/solution have?”, etc. Cite a minimum of 3 sources in this section.
References- References must be APA style. You cannot use direct quotations from references in your paper.
You should have a minimum of 8 total sources for your paper:
Introduction- minimum of 3 sources
Design and Implementation- minimum of 2 sources
Impacts- Minimum of 3 sources
