One public health issue that I think is important for nurses to advocate for is health equity. Health equity is the state in which everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. I would direct my advocacy efforts to policymakers at the federal and state levels. I would advocate for policies that expand access to affordable, high-quality healthcare for everyone. I would also advocate for policies that address the social determinants of health, such as poverty, housing insecurity, and lack of access to healthy food.

In addition to advocating for policy changes, I would also advocate for changes in nursing practice. I would encourage nurses to educate their patients and communities about the social determinants of health and how to address them. I would also encourage nurses to work to change policies and practices within their own healthcare organizations that create or perpetuate health inequities.
