I have chosen to focus my report on the company Costco. Founded in 1983, Costco is an American multinational retail chain that operates a membership-only warehouse club that provides consumer goods and services at discounted prices. With over 700 locations across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, Costco sells a variety of items from food, electronics to houseware among other products and services . The mission statement for the organization reads “To continually provide our members with quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices” (Costco Wholesale Corporation., n.d.). This is achieved by cutting out middlemen in their supply chain process as well as offering merchandise in bulk with large discounts compared to traditional retailers.
For this report I will be focusing on the position of Accounting Manager which reports directly to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) within Finance department . The role of Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring proper accounting practices are followed throughout all departments while tracking financial data related to sales ,expenses ,revenues etc It also involves managing team personnel responsible for conducting audits , assessing financial statements &risk management activities as well as developing internal controls or systems used by auditors/accountants.
The strategic importance of this position lies in its ability identify any potential risks that can arise due mismanagement of funds or lack thereof. It links back one initiative – cost savings – which requires accounting managers create a transparent reporting mechanism so accurate assessments can be made regarding areas where costs incurred could be reduced without compromising quality goods &services offered customers . By doing such assessment it enables them develop strategies leading towards cost optimization helping organization reach higher levels efficiency.
