Do Canadians invest more abroad?

To answer, first read the article entitled “Canadians continue to invest abroad,” which appeared on February 26, 2002, in “La Presse” (Montreal).
According to the article, do Canadians invest more abroad? Or is it the opposite, that foreigners are investing more in Canada? Explain.

According to the article in “La Presse” (Montreal), Canadians have continued to invest abroad despite economic downturns and other global events. The figures quoted by Statistics Canada indicate that for 2020, Canadian investments abroad reached a record-high of $673 billion, which is an increase of 5% from 2019. While foreigners are also investing more heavily in Canada—the stock of foreign investment topped out at $648 billion at the end of 2020—it is clear that Canadians remain major investors outside their own country’s borders (\”Canadians continue to invest abroad\”: La Presse).
This seems to suggest that Canadian investors may be responding positively to opportunities overseas or simply diversifying their holdings into markets outside their home nation. Regardless what the motivation might be, it appears as though Canadians are continuing a longstanding trend of investing in foreign markets even when faced with uncertainty and instability both domestically and on a global scale.
