Water Protection Group in the Great Lakes
I am passionate about protecting the water quality in the Great Lakes, which is why I am writing about the Alliance for the Great Lakes. The Alliance for the Great Lakes is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that works to protect, restore, and sustain the Great Lakes. The Alliance has a variety of programs and initiatives that are working to improve water quality in the Great Lakes, including:
- Clean Water Watch: The Clean Water Watch program monitors water quality at over 1,000 beaches and rivers in the Great Lakes region. The data that is collected through the Clean Water Watch program is used to inform the public about water quality and to advocate for policies that protect water resources.
- Advocate Great Lakes: The Advocate Great Lakes program works to protect the Great Lakes through advocacy and public education. The program works to influence policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels to pass and implement policies that protect water quality. The program also works to educate the public about the importance of the Great Lakes and how to protect them.
- Restore Great Lakes: The Restore Great Lakes program works to restore the Great Lakes ecosystem through habitat restoration and pollution prevention projects. The program works to restore wetlands, forests, and other habitats that are important for water quality and wildlife. The program also works to reduce pollution from sources such as agriculture, industry, and stormwater runoff.
- The Alliance for the Great Lakes played a key role in the passage of the Great Lakes Water Resources Compact, which is a regional agreement that protects the Great Lakes from water diversions.
- The Alliance for the Great Lakes is working to reduce phosphorus pollution from agriculture, which is a major contributor to harmful algal blooms in the Great Lakes.
- The Alliance for the Great Lakes is working to restore wetlands, which play an important role in filtering water and reducing pollution.
- The Alliance for the Great Lakes is educating the public about the importance of the Great Lakes and how to protect them.
