Dorsey’s Life

In the early 1920s, Dorsey began to write gospel songs. His first gospel song, “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” was published in 1929. The song quickly became popular, and Dorsey began to write more gospel songs.

In 1932, Dorsey founded the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. The convention was a major force in the growth of gospel music, and it helped to spread Dorsey’s music all over the country.
