This paper aims to analyze the effects that cybersecurity has had on economic growth in Vietnam over time using econometric evidence obtained from quarterly data spanning between 1987 and 2013. The authors find that while there is a positive relationship between cybersecurity expenditure and GDP growth overall, its effects vary depending on certain factors such as industry type or level of foreign direct investment received within certain industries as well as other macroeconomic conditions present within the country during certain time frames. By doing so, this paper adds new insight into just how important cyber security is for economic development even for countries with limited resources available for implementing proper protection mechanisms against malicious actors online.
