One of my most memorable learning experiences was during a unit on Ancient Greece in fifth grade. During this unit, we studied the history, culture, and art of Ancient Greece through various activities such as scavenger hunts and map-making. We also read works by Greek philosophers and dramatists such as Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” (Plato). As an artifact to illuminate my thinking about this experience, I have included a map assignment I completed which shows the city-state of Athens along with its major landmarks. It is evident from this artifact that I gained knowledge about Ancient Greek geography through this process which was further supported by our class discussions and readings (Reeves).
