This paper presents the results of an in-depth interview conducted with a leader in radiology and healthcare administration. The purpose of this study is to gain insight into the unique challenges facing those working within radiologic sciences, as well as their strategies for addressing them. The interviewee was selected based on his extensive experience and knowledge about both fields. The interview took place in person at a local hospital, where the respondent worked full time as Director of Radiology Services. In order to protect the privacy of our participant, we have chosen to use a pseudonym for him throughout this paper – Dr. David Smith.
During the course of this interview, Dr. Smith discussed how he applies ethical principles such as autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence and justice when managing his department which includes ordering tests or treatments, negotiating procedures with other departments or stakeholders etc . He noted that it is important to respect each patient’s autonomy by offering them choices related to treatment options while also being aware that certain decisions may carry risks (Henderson et al., 2020) . Further , he emphasized that his primary goal is always protecting patients from harm through careful risk assessment before moving forward with any action (Marks 2011) . Finally , he mentioned that justice must be served by providing equitable access to care regardless of social background or economic status (Sachs 2008).
