Measures of central tendency are crucial in statistics because they give us a simplified way to understand the center of a data set. With a single number, they represent the typical value of all the data points. This is vital for several reasons:

• Summarizes large data sets: Imagine analyzing hundreds of test scores. A central tendency measure, like the mean or median, gives you a quick grasp of what score most students achieved.
