In Milke v. Ryan, the accused had been convicted of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and kidnaping of a child. Her conspirators had refused to testify against her and told the court that Milke was not present at the scene of crime. Later on, Milke conviction attracted public debate due to the testimony and conduct of the arresting detective, Armando Saldate. The detective`s confession had not been corroborated while Milke had remained adamant that id did nor occur leading to Saldate being accused of perjury, which is the offence of lying under oath. Milke`s conviction was later unanimously overturned by the United States Ninth Circuit Court.
