My personal moral theory is based on the idea of utilitarianism, which states that an action should be judged as right or wrong according to its consequences. I believe that when making decisions, it is important to consider the potential outcomes and decide if they are likely to produce more good than bad. In other words, my moral theory emphasizes the importance of considering both positive and negative effects before taking any action. To ensure this process is carried out in a fair and effective manner, it must take into account all relevant considerations such as the interests of all parties involved and the long-term implications associated with different courses of action (Nozick 2005). Furthermore, I also think that decision makers have a responsibility towards maintaining justice by ensuring their choices do not negatively impact anyone’s rights or freedom (Rawls 1971). All in all, through my understanding of utilitarianism combined with a commitment towards justice for everyone; I strive to make ethical decisions whenever possible.
