Consider the case of Aaron, who excitedly informs you that his favorite activity is watching Saved by the Bell reruns and writing about them on his philosophy blog. He is deeply passionate about it, and he spends as much time as possible watching and re-watching Saved by the Bell episodes. After each episode he watches, he writes an in-depth philosophical analysis, which he then posts on his blog. Once he has re-watched every episode and written about it, he begins the cycle again, watching for things he had previously overlooked, and then writing anew. Your essay will examine how Richard Taylor and Susan Wolf would evaluate Aaron’s life, with a focus on whether they would find it meaningful or not. (1a) Given his philosophical position, would Richard Taylor believe Aaron is living a meaningful life? (1b) Given her philosophical position, would Susan Wolf believe Aaron is living a meaningful life? Compare and contrast what Taylor and Wolf would say about Aaron. Make sure to explain the key points of both Taylor and Wolf’s respective positions in order to support why you think they would hold their respective views of Aaron. Then, (2) assess Taylor and Wolf’s respective views on whether or not Aaron’s life should be considered meaningful. That is, what seems right in their respective accounts and what seems wrong?
