Whether or not politics is the art of lying convincingly in order to gain power is a complex question. There is no easy answer, and it depends on how one defines politics.

- The art or science of government.
- Adolf Hitler promised the German people that he would restore Germany to its former glory. However, he did this by lying about his true intentions and by scapegoating the Jews.
- Richard Nixon lied to the American people about his involvement in the Watergate scandal. He eventually resigned from office as a result of this scandal.
- Bill Clinton lied to the American people about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. He was impeached by the House of Representatives, but he was acquitted by the Senate.
