Across the country, participation in high school football is decreasing. Some of these factors for decreasing numbers are concussion concerns, budgetary constraints, interests in other sports, and coach-player relationships. Football is a sport where an individual learns integrity, self-discipline, time management, and teamwork, which are similar requirements for functions in life. As problems continue to mount in the inner-city, African American males need resources to be successful. School administrators, teachers, and coaches are seeking ways to improve retention rates for African American males.
