The iterative reflection process begins with the practitioner’s evaluation of the action plan. After receiving feedback from relevant stakeholders, I have revised my plan in order to better meet their needs and align it more closely with the school’s vision and mission statements. For example, I had initially planned on focusing solely on improving access to educational resources for students from disadvantaged backgrounds; however, after hearing feedback from parents and teachers alike, I decided that additional efforts were needed towards providing a safe learning environment conducive to social-emotional growth as well (Shinal et al., 2020).
In order to ensure this goal was met, I took several steps such as increasing student input into cultivating positive classroom behavior through activities like peer mediation or introducing restorative justice practices. Additionally, I worked towards making sure all students felt welcomed by organizing events focused on celebrating diversity while also providing trauma-informed instruction aimed at avoiding re-traumatization in those who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) (Lara et al., 2019). Lastly, another measure taken was creating an anti-bias curriculum emphasizing respect for differences between individuals regardless of race/ethnicity or gender identity so everyone is aware of their individual rights and responsibilities within the school community (Ridgeway & Biggs 2021).
Overall, given all these revisions made to my original action plan based on stakeholder feedback and further research into best practices for promoting equity outcomes within an educational setting – there is a strong likelihood that these initiatives will be successful at helping our school reach its objectives related social justice and equity.
