Clinical practice engenders research questions and knowledge for theory (Saleh, 2018). Research facilitates practice and constructs knowledge through theory development. Subsequently, theory guides research and improves practice. This paper describes the relationship among the three cornerstones of nursing— Practice, research, and theory—and discuss the theory-practice gap as an impediment to theory-based practice.
