Using information from lecture and the textbook, define reflexivity in your own words, and talk about how your presence and identity (e.g. your gender, age, etc.) affected what the people around you did during your participant observation. How has your identity potentially shaped your interpretation of what you observed?
2. What do you think are the strengths and limitations of participant observation as a research method? What kinds of data does it allow you to collect?
3. Come up with two issues or debates that show how institutions (e.g., governments, religious bodies, media) attempt to regulate aspects of sexuality. Share with a partner.
4. Let’s dig into intersectionality. Think about your own class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and religion.
