Strategic Plan Case Study Scenarios

Choose one for development throughout this course and for the final strategic plan to be submitted in week 8 of the course.

Background

Today, Acme Medical Center (AMC) is a new, 150-bed, non-profit medical facility created by the merger of two hospital systems – a private doctor’s hospital and a non-profit, county hospital. AMC is in a rural community, but is surrounded by a state university branch, medical office park, and multiple shopping centers. The medical center and its physicians are affiliated with a university, teaching hospital some distance away. AMC is designated as a Critical Access and Rural Hospital.

Student Activities

1. Identify a small city or town,(currituck county NC) between 50-100 miles from your home, as a location for Acme Medical Center (Submit selection for approval in Week 1 Assignment)
2. Obtain census, demographic statistics, cultural, public health, and other population information on the approved location
3. Ascertain other medical facilities/services which may be competitors of AMC
4. Choose one of the scenarios (A, B, C, or D) below to be the focus of your strategic plan (Submit choice in Week 1 Assignment)
a. Goals and Objectives are set as approved by AMC board of directors
b. Deliverables must be provided in the Strategic Plan and Appendices
c. Additional or alternative deliverables may be negotiated with the instructor

Sample Solution

Location: Currituck County, North Carolina 🗺️

Currituck County, North Carolina, is a suitable location for Acme Medical Center, meeting the criteria of being a small city or town between 50-100 miles from my home (Kisumu, Kenya is not applicable here as the prompt implies a US-based scenario, so I will proceed with Currituck County as a plausible US rural location).
