Strategic planning has emerged as a valid and indispensable tool for guiding all types of organizations, including healthcare organizations (Perero & Peiró, 2012 Harrison, 2016). The organizational pedestal at which the strategic planning process is applied is determined by the unit’s size, its complexity and the differentiation of the service provided. Typical hospital departments such as cardiology, hemodynamic unit or an electrophysiology unit can be an appropriate level, as long as their strategies conform to other plans at higher levels. The plan assigns responsibilities to individuals to promote planning, a core and essential part of that role. The process of strategic planning should be systematic, rational, and holistic so as to integrate the short, medium and long term programs in healthcare settings.
