Yet, opposition to vaccination has existed as long as vaccination itself. Mandatory vaccination is something that’s long been debated. There are those who say that legislation has had a dramatic effect in other areas of public health and safety, such as the indoor smoking ban, so why not do the same with immunization. Others are more reserved however, expressing concerns that there is lack of evidence that mandatory vaccination actually helps to increase uptake. Parents can ask for a medical exemption if a vaccine wouldn’t be safe for their child. Medical exemptions prevent kids from getting vaccines that might be unsafe for them.
