Describe the current 21st century role of U.S. hospitals.
Write, describing the current role of hospitals in the United States. In your paper, respond to the following questions.
-Briefly describe the history of hospitals in the United States.
-Briefly discuss the major changes hospitals have experienced over the past 20 years.
-Discuss how these changes have affected the delivery of health care in the United States.
Hospitals in the United States emerged from institutions, notably almshouses, that provided care and custody for the ailing poor. A six-bed ward founded in 1736 in the New York City Almshouse became, over the course of a century and more, Bellevue Hospital. Public hospitals are owned by governments and play an important role in the health care safety net, providing care for patients who may have limited access to care elsewhere. Public hospitals provide care for individuals across the United States: in urban and suburban areas, in small towns, and in rural areas.
