A board of nursing (BON) is a government agency that regulates the practice of nursing within a specific state or territory. BONs are responsible for licensure, discipline, and education standards for nurses.
What is a professional nurse association?
A professional nurse association (PNA) is a private organization that represents the interests of nurses and the nursing profession. PNAs provide educational and networking opportunities for nurses, as well as advocate for nurses on legislative and regulatory issues.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a non-profit organization that provides leadership and support to BONs throughout the United States. The NCSBN develops and maintains the NCLEX exam, which is the national licensure exam for nurses.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is the largest professional nursing organization in the world. The ANA represents the interests of all nurses, regardless of specialty or practice setting. The ANA provides educational and networking opportunities for nurses, as well as advocates for nurses on legislative and regulatory issues.
