The period of 1770-1815 marked the end of Irish kingdom and the beginning of its union with Great Britain which would last until 1922. This transition was driven by various social, political and economic factors that arose during this time which ultimately led to the dissolution of Ireland’s monarchy and a new relationship between the two countries.

One such factor was religious strife between Catholics and Protestants who had been at odds since English colonization in the 16th century (McKittrick & Keogh, 2001). Tensions only got worse after parliament enacted Penal Laws to further restrict Catholic rights leaving them with very few options for redress or advancement. These measures eventually culminated in an uprising known as The United Irishmen Rebellion which threatened England’s authority over Ireland (Scott 2017).

In addition to these religious issues, England also imposed several economic policies on Ireland throughout this era such as levies on imports from Britain as well as land confiscation from Catholic landowners (Habakkuk & Carroll, 1981). These actions further contributed to mounting tensions between both sides leading many Irish citizens to call for independence from their colonizers.

Ultimately, it is clear that tension between Britain and Ireland during this period reached a boiling point due mainly to social and economic issues discussed here. After centuries of oppression under foreign rule, native forces could no longer be contained leading us into one more chapter in colonial history – one where Kingdom succumbed Union.
