My Current Perception: Art and Technology Today

In today’s world, I see art and technology as increasingly intertwined. Technology provides new tools and mediums for artistic expression. We have digital art, 3D printing for sculptures, and even virtual reality experiences that can be considered artistic creations. Technology also allows for wider dissemination of art through the internet and social media.

On the other hand, art can inspire technological innovation. Artistic visions can push the boundaries of what technology can achieve, leading to the development of new tools and techniques. Additionally, art can be used to critique or comment on the impact of technology on society.

However, this is just my initial perception, and I’m curious to learn more about the historical relationship between these two fields.

Art and Technology in the Renaissance (from memory)

Based on the readings for this week, here are two examples of how art and technology were intertwined during the Renaissance:

• Linear Perspective: This artistic technique, which creates the illusion of three-dimensionality on a flat surface, relied heavily on mathematical principles and geometric calculations. Artists like Brunelleschi used their understanding of geometry to develop this technique, demonstrating a clear link between art and science (which ultimately led to technological advancements).
• Anatomy and Invention: Renaissance artists, particularly Leonardo da Vinci, were fascinated by human anatomy. Their detailed studies of the human body not only informed their artistic creations but also contributed to advancements in medical science and surgical techniques. This highlights how artistic exploration could lead to scientific and technological breakthroughs.

These are just a couple of examples, and I’m sure the readings provided more detailed information about this fascinating relationship during the Renaissance period.
