The mission, vision, values, and strategic goals are all interconnected components of an organization’s overall strategy. The mission statement outlines the purpose of the organization – what it does and why it exists (Kotler & Keller, 2016). It guides decision-making processes within an organization by providing a sense of direction in terms of what should be pursued (Kotler & Keller, 2016).
The vision statement on the other hand sets out a picture for the future which outlines how the organisation hopes to achieve its ambitions – often having implications for both external stakeholders as well as internal operations (Bryson et al., 2018). This differs from values which provide guidelines to ethics or morality based upon shared beliefs held within an organisation (Bryson et al., 2018).
Finally – strategic goals are used to measure progress towards achieving objectives set out by both mission and vision statements. These can be divided into long term aspirations such as increasing revenue or expanding market share as well short term plans that focus more around day-to-day activities like introducing new marketing campaigns or hiring additional staff members(Kotler & Keller, 2016) Kotler & Keller K.(2016). All four elements therefore work together in order to create cohesive strategies that can be implemented and maintained over time.
