It is generally acknowledged in literature that people with a serious mental illness (SMI), have poorer physical health. Indeed, individuals with SMI concomitants such as schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder endure neglect from primary and secondary health-care services alike (Roberts et al. 2011). The affected individuals usually exhibit comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, respiratory disease, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases, from which they are twice as likely to die compared to the general population. The gravity of the matter continues to attract interest from governments across the globe. For instance, the UK Government’s new strategy ‘No health without mental health’ reports that people with SMI and a physical illness die 16–25 years earlier than the general population (Roberts et al. 2011).

I explored the main themes that I identified when doing my research: marketing and social media, body image and bloggers which can all relate to the impact that social media has had on the fashion industry. The evidence that I found in these sources coincides well with what I found when doing my own investigation of social media and different brands profiles. The only limitations that some of the evidence may have are that they are based on personal opinion rather than fact. For further research I would like to find more figures to solidify and confirm the findings about social media.
