The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity report is an initiative that makes recommendations for nurses to achieve higher levels of education. This report recognizes the importance of nursing education and its role in providing quality patient care, improving health outcomes and promoting health equity. Nurses are an integral part of ensuring that all patients receive equal access to quality healthcare, regardless of race or socio-economic status. By obtaining advanced degrees, nurses have the opportunity to have greater autonomy within their professional roles and impact positive change towards a more equitable health system.

Obtaining a higher level degree provides many benefits for nurses as it allows them to stay up-to-date on current trends in healthcare practice and research while enhancing their clinical knowledge base. Furthermore, having additional academic credentials can increase opportunities for competitive employment positions with better pay and benefits (Davies et al., 2016). The ability to obtain certifications from colleges or universities also provides recognition from employers that one has achieved proficiency in certain areas such as critical care nursing or informatics (Adeloye et al., 2018).

My overall educational goals include completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing by 2022 so that I am eligible to apply for graduate school programs offering advanced degrees such as Master’s Degrees or Doctorates in Nursing Practice (DNP). Once I complete my BSN program I plan on specializing into pediatric primary care nursing which requires at least two years working experience after obtaining license before applying into DNP program (Wong et al., 2019). My long term goal is eventually earn certification as a Nurse Practitioner so that I can provide comprehensive primary health care services directly to children with various acute illnesses or chronic conditions.
