Develop your own substance abuse treatment model for criminal offenders. Present a proposal for what the treatment model would look like. Be sure to focus on a specific population (e.g., adolescents, adults) and a specific drug population (alcoholic, heroin addict, etc.) and provide a detailed description of it (demographic information including local, state and national statistics). Also, include the type of therapy you would conduct (individual, group, family) and why this approach is best suited to changing the drug user. Also discuss an ancillary service you would provide (e.g., job training, mental health counseling for co-morbid psychological disorders).
The “Phoenix Rising Treatment Model” is a proposed comprehensive substance use disorder treatment program specifically designed for adult male offenders (aged 18 and above) with a primary diagnosis of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), particularly heroin addiction. This model is founded on the belief that sustained recovery and successful societal reintegration for this population requires an intensive, multi-faceted approach that addresses not only substance dependence but also co-occurring mental health issues, criminogenic thinking patterns, social determinants of health, and the profound trauma often experienced by this demographic.
Inspired by the mythical Phoenix, our model emphasizes rebirth, transformation, and resilience, guiding individuals from the ashes of addiction and incarceration towards a renewed, purposeful, and sober life. It is trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally sensitive, and recovery-oriented, fostering personal accountability within a supportive framework.
Our primary target population is adult males (18+) who are currently incarcerated or recently released from correctional facilities, with a documented history of heroin addiction.
