In my view, affirmative action is not wrong. Affirmative action was first introduced in the United States as a way to address the systemic discrimination faced by historically marginalized groups such as people of color and women (Westin, 2020). My support for affirmative action comes from believing that everyone should be given equal access to resources and opportunity - something which has been denied to individuals belonging to certain groups due to centuries of oppression and injustice. Affirmative action seeks to level this playing field by providing additional means through which these individuals can succeed - be it in employment, education or any other field. Furthermore , I believe this policy also allows employers t o diversify their workforce so as t o better represent their target market s . This is especially important i n today’s increasingly multicultural societies where it’s essential t o recognize every person’s unique talents and experiences if businesses are going t o remain competitive .
That said , I do understand there have been cases where some feel that affirmative action policies have been misused , giving preferential treatment t o those who don't deserve i t based on factors unrelated t o merit . However , such occurrences are few and far between when compared with how much good they bring overall . Additionally , steps can be taken within companies themselves , such as regular employee evaluations or feedback surveys , in order t o ensure that qualifications are considered before any decision making related to recruitment or promotion takes place (Eckes & Granado, 2019).
