It has been almost two years since the passage of the Affordable Health Care Act and yet, citizens are still struggling with mounting medical bills and unpredictable access to quality care. In an effort to address this problem that is plaguing our nation, we must look into innovative solutions that provide accessible coverage for all Americans.
Currently, various states have established their own health care exchange programs which provide subsidies for insurance plans purchased on the marketplace. Although this system helps many people find affordable coverage options, it does not go far enough in providing consistent access to care for those living in poverty or in lower-income brackets (Cohn et al., 2019). Additionally, rising healthcare costs contribute to further economic disparity as those who already struggle financially can hardly afford even the most basic treatments (Lefkowitz & Smith 2020).
In order to overcome these issues we must implement policies that focus on making healthcare more affordable while expanding access and improving overall quality of care. This could be done through measures such as reforming pharmaceutical pricing regulations or creating tax credits for low-income families so they can purchase insurance plans without breaking their budget (Arnold et al., 2020). These types of initiatives will ensure everyone receives comprehensive coverage regardless of socioeconomic status thus helping reduce disparities within our healthcare system.
Furthermore, there needs to be a greater focus on preventative measures like increasing educational campaigns regarding healthy lifestyles and creating better infrastructure for physical activities such as walking paths or bike lanes (Wang et al., 2019). By taking proactive approaches like these we can help reduce illnesses caused by lifestyle choices while also making it easier for individuals to lead healthier lives.
Overall, achieving universal health coverage is no small feat but by implementing targeted policy changes alongside preventative measures aimed at improving public health outcomes this goal becomes much more achievable. With concerted efforts from both elected officials and citizens alike we can create a fairer future filled with greater opportunities for improved access to quality and cost effective healthcare services throughout our entire nation.
