The problem addressed in this paper is that food safety is not being adequately maintained within the US and in other countries, leading to increased levels of foodborne illness. This is a persistent problem due to the fact that there are numerous factors that contribute to it including: inadequate regulations, lack of consumer awareness, low-quality products on store shelves, and more (Kumar et al., 2017). Although progress has been made in recent years with initiatives such as the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) passed by Congress in 2011 , there is still much work to be done.

The policy solution proposed here was for governments at all levels to take a unified approach towards assuring food safety as public good. This would involve creating strong regulations based on scientific evidence while also educating consumers about how they can protect themselves and their families from potential risks associated with consuming certain foods (Vandenbrande et al., 2018). Additionally; various stakeholders such as industry leaders , academic researchers , non profit organizations etc. should be involved so that these efforts have maximum effect .

In conclusion; ensuring safe and healthy products for consumers requires an approach which involves close collaboration between different sectors of society . Governments must strive towards establishing policies which effectively address underlying issues related to food safety while industry players must remain committed towards providing quality goods at reasonable prices.
