Birthrate in Ukraine is a major issue facing the country today. In 2019, the average number of births per woman stood at 1.36, which is well below replacement level and one of the lowest birthrates in Europe (Central Intelligence Agency 2020). This has had serious implications for population growth as well as long-term economic stability since it means that fewer people are entering the workforce to contribute to development and productivity.

The main factors contributing to this trend include poverty, lack of access to reproductive health services and education, gender inequality, migration abroad, changing social norms around marriage/family life and increased life expectancy (Korotayeva et al., 2018). These issues have been further exacerbated by decades of political instability which has resulted in worsened economic conditions leaving many without basic necessities such as food or shelter; consequently women often opt not to have children due these financial constraints.

In order to address this problem, policies must be implemented that focus on improving living standards for all citizens; this includes better access to healthcare including family planning services & maternal care as well as more job opportunities & higher wages so that people can afford basic needs. Additionally, increasing awareness about reproductive health rights through public campaigns could also go a long way towards encouraging couples to start families if they feel supported & safe doing so (Korotayeva et al., 2018).
