The Chinese movie “Butterfly Lovers” tells us a lot about traditional Chinese culture. It is an adaptation of a classic folktale that has been passed down for centuries, highlighting the importance of loyalty, honor and filial piety (Jiang et al., 2019). The story depicts how two individuals who are not allowed to be together due to social conventions eventually find freedom in each other. This speaks volumes about the importance placed on family and societal obligations in traditional Chinese culture; despite their strong feelings for one another the characters must abide by cultural norms instead of following their hearts or risk facing severe consequences (Liu et al., 2018).
