Way back at the beginning of this class we talked about the Baby Boomers… those belonging to the large generation born between 1946 and 1964 who are now aging and having a great impact on the healthcare system, shaping careers, opportunities and the way we provide care. As we are nearing the end of the class and have seen a number of career options, hopefully you have a good idea of your final career choice!
In 1-2 paragraphs (3-5 sentences each) please tell me what career you plan to pursue and how the Baby Boomer generation will impact the profession you are choosing. You can discuss the everyday practice, the career field in general or any aspect you feel is important.
As we near the conclusion of this class, I have come to realize my passion for the field of gerontology. Gerontology is the study of aging and the aging process, and it encompasses a wide range of topics, including social, economic, psychological, and biological aspects of aging. I am drawn to this field because of its interdisciplinary nature and its focus on improving the lives of older adults.
The aging of the Baby Boomer generation is having a significant impact on the field of gerontology. As this large cohort of individuals enters retirement, there is a growing demand for gerontological professionals who can provide a variety of services, such as healthcare, social work, and financial planning. Additionally, the Baby Boomers are more likely to have chronic health conditions than previous generations, which is creating a need for gerontological professionals who specialize in aging-related diseases.
I am particularly interested in the field of geriatric social work. Geriatric social workers provide a variety of services to older adults, including counseling, case management, and advocacy. They also work to educate older adults about their rights and options, and they help them to connect with resources in their communities.
I believe that gerontology is a field with great potential for making a positive impact on the lives of older adults. The Baby Boomer generation is aging into a time of their lives when they need more support than ever before, and gerontological professionals are in a unique position to provide that support. I am excited to be a part of this field and to make a difference in the lives of older adults.
In addition to the everyday practice of geriatric social work, I am also interested in the field of research on aging. I believe that research is essential to developing new and effective interventions for older adults. I am particularly interested in research on the social and psychological aspects of aging, as I believe that these factors play a significant role in the quality of life of older adults.
I am confident that my education and training in gerontology will prepare me for a successful career in this field. I am eager to learn more about the aging process and the challenges that older adults face. I am also committed to providing compassionate and high-quality care to my clients.
I believe that the aging of the Baby Boomer generation is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. As this generation continues to age, there will be a growing need for gerontological professionals to provide care, support, and advocacy. I am proud to be a part of this field and to contribute to the well-being of older adults.
