The period of 1715-1770 was a tumultuous time for Ireland as tensions between England and the Irish people grew stronger due to various forces at play. During this time, there were significant shifts in power dynamics between colonizers and natives which resulted in heightened unrest that had major implications for both sides.

One such shift involved the repeal of Poyning’s Law which had been enacted by English authorities centuries before in order to limit Irish autonomy (Habakkuk & Carroll, 1981). This move allowed Irish parliament to gain more control over domestic matters which was met with mixed reactions from those in favor of colonization as well as those opposed to it. This new relationship created an atmosphere of hostility and resentment that only contributed to existing tension between the two parties.

Furthermore, economic policies implemented by England during this era caused further strain on their relationship with the colony (McKittrick & Keogh, 2001). Landowners saw their lands being taken away while other acts like the Wool Act restricted trade within colonies thus making them increasingly dependent on British imports. In addition to these issues, religious differences also proved difficult for both sides as Catholics continued experiencing discrimination despite legislation intended protect them (Scott 2017).

In conclusion, it is clear that tensions between Britain and Ireland during the mid-18th century were high due mainly to political, economic and religious issues discussed here. These factors created an environment whereby native opposition against English rule was met with harsh suppression from authorities thus leading us into one of most turbulent periods of colonial history up until this point.
