Clinical consultation and supervision have long been regarded as essential components of mental health professional training and competency maintenance. A consultation is a conversation between two mental health experts in which one seeks the other’s advice, insight, or aid on a specific issue or problem. Supervision is an evaluative and interactive procedure in which a supervisor (who is more knowledgeable in the subject) oversees the work of a supervisee (who has fewer skills and knowledge) in order to improve professional abilities and function.
