Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept that refers to organizations’ responsibility to both their internal and external stakeholders. It encompasses three major areas: economic, social and environmental. In his book “Essentials of Management”, Andrew J. DuBrin outlines four initiatives for achieving a socially responsible and ethical organization: commitment to ethical behavior; honoring commitments; respecting diversity; and promoting sustainability (DuBrin, 2018). These initiatives correspond with the categories of CSR outlined in the article “What Is Corporate Social Responsibility?” by Dotcom Magazine.
The first category of CSR is economic responsibility. This involves corporations taking steps to ensure their activities are beneficial not only for shareholders but also for other stakeholders such as employees or customers. In this context, DuBrin’s initiative of honoring commitments could be seen as an example of how companies exhibit economic responsibility – by being reliable in fulfilling their responsibilities towards others they demonstrate trustworthiness which can be beneficial when it comes to long-term relationships with stakeholders (DuBrin, 2018).
The second category is social responsibility which refers to organizations dedicating resources towards improving welfare within communities they operate in or beyond through charity programs or community development projects (DotcomMagazine Staff Writer, 2017). For example, according to DuBrin respecting diversity can help foster understanding between different cultural backgrounds and lead to improved relations between corporations and local communities (DuBrin, 2018).

Similarly, DuBrin advocates promoting sustainability which can relate directly back into environmental considerations such as waste management procedures or energy conservation policies (DuBrin ,2018)
Finally, there is legal responsibility which includes abiding by applicable laws related to labor practices trade regulations etc.. Here again we see similarities with DuBing’s commitment to ethical behavior – having a culture that values following the law helps create an organizational climate where everyone feels secure knowing they will be treated fairly regardless of background or affiliation.(DuBrin ,2018)
In conclusion then, these four initiatives all fall within one or more aspects of corporate social responsibility helping organizations better understand what it means -and requires -to act responsibly within society.
