This course has been an invaluable learning experience in terms of understanding the biblical foundations for church revitalization, balancing the past and the future, and the urgency of church revitalization. It has shaped my thinking in ways that will help me to be a more effective leader within my own church context.

In regards to biblical foundations for church revitalization, this course taught me how to use Scripture and theology as the primary source when discussing topics such as missional living, transformation, cultural change, renewal movements, and outreach initiatives. Through looking at passages from both Old Testament and New Testament books I was able to gain a better understanding of what it means to lead others towards a renewed faithfulness that is rooted in God’s word (Brown & O’Brien 2020). This knowledge will help me guide people through challenging times with confidence knowing that I am aligning myself with God’s purpose for his Church.

The course also provided me insight into balancing the past and future by teaching me about organizational assessment tools such as SWOT analysis which can be used on an ongoing basis so churches can continually analyze their current situation (DeVoe et al., 2018). Additionally, this class introduced me to various aspects of strategic planning including goal setting techniques which allow leaders to make realistic plans while acknowledging changes over time (Crosby 2019). These skills will enable me to strategically plan ahead while also maintaining important traditions from the past.

Finally, this course highlighted why it is so urgent for us as Christian leaders to embrace change if our churches are going undisturbed today don’t remain relevant tomorrow (Hennigan 2017). Understanding how values are shifting within different cultures gives insight into how we should go about making changes that bring new members or keep existing ones engaged (Youngblood & Mulder 2020). Not only does this require staying up-to-date on technological advances but being intentional about creating environments where diversity is embraced rather than feared or ignored.

Overall, this course has given an incredibly valuable deep dive into many topics related to leading churches towards meaningful change. Providing foundational knowledge on key concepts combined with discussions surrounding real life examples helped develop my skill set more than I could have ever imagined prior taking it. I now feel equipped with actionable steps needed not just survive but thrive during complex times like these.
