Fnd the argument you want to create a rebuttal to. Think about what you’ve heard or read that you find incorrect or offensive. Find a written version of that article and study it carefully, deeply analyzing your reasons for disagreeing. Here are a few things to think about: Exactly what claim do you want to argue against? Are the facts presented accurately and interpreted correctly? What other facts might outweigh the evidence presented in the argument? Is there a direct connection between the claim and support? On what assumptions is the argument based? Are they fair ones? Does the author commit any fallacies? Does he or she rely too much on pathos or ethos? Once you further understand why you disagree with the argument, it’s time to decide how you will argue against it. The debate around gun ownership is a contentious issue that has been discussed at length in recent years. Despite the fact that proponents of this viewpoint often cite self-defense and hunting as reasons for wanting access to firearms, opponents counter with claims that such weapons pose significant risks to public safety and should be tightly regulated or outright banned (O’Brien, 2019).
I personally disagree with this sentiment since there are several other factors which need to be taken into consideration when debating this particular topic. Firstly, it is important recognize how people from different backgrounds experience the effects of gun violence – not only does the presence of firearms lead to higher homicide rates but also increases instances of suicide amongst certain demographics (Brent et al., 2017). Furthermore, research suggests that legal restrictions on obtaining guns have had mixed success mainly due to loopholes in current laws which allow individuals circumvent these regulations in certain cases (Miller et al., 2012). Lastly, while tighter legislation can help reduce violent crimes they are ultimately ineffective if not accompanied by better enforcement measures as well as more comprehensive mental health programs designed specifically address underlying issues contributing towards violence within society (Kontos et al., 2018).
Ultimately then, it seems clear why both sides have strong arguments however I do believe stricter oversight is required when it comes ensuring the proper use of firearms – only after taking all these points into account can we truly determine what constitutes acceptable gun ownership.
