Office Ergonomics: The Complete Guide | ViewSonic Library

We discussed the definition of ergonomics and the role of ergonomics in our professional lives. For the assignment, you will expand on those concepts a bit further and focus on how ergonomics can affect different types of workstations.

1. Describe the relationship between proper ergonomic design and your workstation; include a real-world example. Explain how ergonomics, if not properly applied, can affect your life short-term or long-term. (Note: You may consider your study work station or your workstation at your place of employment.)
2. Amy works for a large variety store in your area. Her work tasks include standing at the cash register (checkout counter) for extended periods of time. She is responsible for scanning items and placing them into bags or the customer’s cart. Some of these items can be heavy. Describe some of the areas within this workstation where this employee could be injured. Describe what actions the employer might take to relieve some of these hazards.
3. Adam, a 25-year-old Caucasian male, is an employee working in the automotive section of a large variety store. Using the tables found in Chapter 3, provide a hypothetical description of Adam that would place him in the 50th percentile for height, weight, waist circumference, and body mass index. Provide exact measurements for Adam, using the 50th percentile columns. Explain one area where these measurements might be of use for the employer as it relates to this employee.

An estimated 380,000 days of work are missed annually among all U.S workers due to ergonomic-related injuries (OSHA, 2018). By implication, this means that ergonomic complaints accounted for 1 in every 3 cases of sick days. Regrettably, many businesses have yet to realize the extensive consequences of poor ergonomic design in the workplace. An ergonomically accurate workstation not only enhances the user’s productivity, but it can also considerably reduce any risk of ergonomic injuries. In this paper, basic ergonomic guidelines necessary for creating a workstation that provides a healthy and productive work environment as well as quality outcomes for clients is necessary.

Before the establishment of the printed press, and therefore books, publications were very scarce and generally only available to people of high class and power such as nobles and members of the Church. This began to change when Johannes Gutenberg invented the first form of printing press and type-mould in 1440; word of this invention spread quickly and very quickly others improved on Gutenberg’s work. This lead to a higher standard of literacy throughout society; the more people read, the volume of books increases. This newfound relatively unrestricted spread of information and ideas began to threaten the political and religious powers of the time; where “the sharp increase in literacy broke the monopoly of the literate elite education and learning and bolstered the emerging middle class.”. By 1480, printing press was being used in at least 110 different places across Europe, and from then onwards it is understood that the printing press and books had become a large part of European culture.

The new developments in the printing press lead to becoming a factor in the creation of groups of scientists who were consequently able to easily express their experiments and discoveries by using heavily circulated scholarly journals, clearly showing how books helped bring on the scientific revolution. The increasing popularity of the printing press made authorship a more attractive profession as it had become more profitable and had an underlying deeper meaning. It had become of great importance who had written texts, as well as what the precise formulation and time of writing actually was. Before the heightened popularity of printed texts, the author was of much less importance and was us
