My refined clinical question is: What is the effectiveness of an educational intervention in reducing MRSA infection rates among hospitalized patients? To answer this, I conducted a systematic review of the literature using PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus databases.
I identified one evidence-based quantitative article from my search which contained a randomized control trial. This study was conducted by Waddington et al., (2019) to evaluate the impact of an educational intervention on reducing healthcare-associated infections such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The case study included two hospitals located in London that implemented the educational intervention which focused on improving hand hygiene compliance and preventing transmission of hospital acquired infections within their respective wards.
The study approach used for this research was quasi-experimental design with pre/post testing measurements taken over a 19 month period. A total sample size of 1173 healthcare workers from both hospitals were observed throughout this timeframe with data collected via direct observation method. Interventions consisting of lectures, posters and videos were provided to both patient care staff and visitors regarding proper hand hygiene technique.
When applying these findings to my practice specifically, it is important to note that implementation of similar educational interventions can be highly effective in reducing MRSA infection rates among hospitalized patients when accompanied by other components such as regular monitoring systems , facility wide audits etc(Maki & Tambyah 2020). Furthermore it’s worth noting that since small changes like good hand washing technique have been proven time and again to reduce infection rates significantly , they should not be overlooked while devising strategies aimed at addressing more complex issues within health care organizations(Richardson et al., 2018).
Overall, results obtained through this research showed promising outcomes with significant reduction seen in terms of MRSA associated incidence rates across both hospitals post education program . It has been assessed at level 1b evidence according its validity and reliability measures along with absence of any bias or confounding variables making it useful for wider generalization purposes (Waddington et al., 2019).
wever, political risks are imposed if Nike were to invest in China due to the issues on their legal and regulatory sectors. Political economy is a term of legal systems of a country which are interdependent between interacting and influencing one another (Hill et al, 2008). This causes a risk in financial and/or reputational loss because of the difficulties in complying to the host country’s rules and regulations (World Bank,2012).
There are many policies that will affect foreign investors when investing in China as this may affect the way investors manage their companies in the state. In 2018, China had introduced the Environmental Protection Tax Law, which was one of its key goals in their Five-Year plan to improve the country. The Environmental Protection Law refers to atmospheric and water pollutions, solid wastes, and industrial noise. The effects of the new law had created additional costs for firms in China as they had to modernize their installations to prevent themselves being taxed. Therefore, Nike has to understand the consequences before entering China’s market to sustain minimum risk to their entry.
The Michael Porter’s Diamond Model is a diamond-shaped framework that focuses on explaining why industries within a particular nation may be competitive nationally, while others might not. The model is made by Michael Porter, who wanted to find out the elements to determine competitiveness of nations and sub-sectors, and to determine the kinds of contributions provided to develop competitive structures of countries (Sultan and Qaimary, 2018).
The model is based on four factors, and if the conditioners are favourable, domestic companies will continue striving to innovate and upgrade themselves. By applying this model, it would determine the factors Nike will have to consider in order to stay competitive in the industry.
