The first step to developing a management action plan for disaster preparedness is to review the broader strategic decisions, such as those made by governmental and international health organizations. This includes understanding the existing legal, regulatory, and policy framework that would need to be taken into consideration when designing an effective plan (Kamal & Goel, 2019).
The second step of this process involves setting unit objectives. These objectives should identify any potential gaps or weaknesses within the current system of disaster preparedness, which can then be addressed through further action steps. For example, one objective may focus on improving medical resources available during a natural disaster (Kamal & Goel, 2019).
Once these objectives have been established the next step is to identify all the actions that will need to be taken in order to achieve these objectives. In this case some possible actions could include: conducting training exercises for healthcare personnel on responding effectively during disasters; upgrading medical equipment; and establishing communication protocols between different departments at hospitals and other healthcare facilities (Kamal & Goel, 2019).
Following this each action needs timelines set so that progress can be monitored over time. Additionally assigning responsibility to specific individuals or teams who are responsible for completing each task helps create accountability towards achieving desired outcomes (Kamal & Goel, 2019). Resources requirements must also be considered – such as providing adequate funding or personnel depending on what type of tasks are involved in implementing the proposed plan. Lastly it’s important measure results throughout implementation in order ensure goals are being achieved and make adjustments if needed along the way (Kamal & Goel, 2019).
