Sample Solution
The company I have chosen to evaluate throughout this course is Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft is a multinational technology company based out of Redmond, Washington that specializes in computer software, hardware, and consumer electronics. It is one of the largest companies in the world by total revenue and market capitalization.
Microsoft’s diversity policy focuses on creating an inclusive work environment where all employees are able to bring their full selves to work and contribute meaningfully towards business objectives (Microsoft 2020). This commitment has been demonstrated through various initiatives such as its Women at Microsoft program which works to increase internal representation of female workers while also providing them with resources/tools needed for career growth (Microsoft 2021). The corporation has also invested heavily into digital skills development programs designed specifically for underrepresented communities within STEM fields (Kilian 2021).
Furthermore, Microsoft publishes diversity data regularly regarding gender identity along with racial/ethnic backgrounds across its workforce. This includes employee affiliations from traditionally disadvantaged groups such as disabled persons or those identifying as members of the LGBTQ+ community (Microsoft 2020a). All these efforts are intended to create an equitable workplace that allows all individuals regardless of background or identity find success and satisfaction with their job responsibilities.
Overall, it appears that Microsoft takes its responsibility towards promoting greater diversity seriously given the attention it pays not only towards hiring practices but also providing necessary tools for ensuring progression across multiple demographics.(Mansfield et al., 2021)
