Free education also carries potential benefits for companies in terms of increased productivity due to better educated employees who may bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm which could lead to greater profit margins (Fricker & Mändle, 2018). Furthermore, with free access to training courses such as language classes or technical skills development programmes around the world would have much lower unemployment rates which would help reduce poverty levels significantly (UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 2017).

Studies show that providing free access to basic education promotes social mobility. Despite these obvious benefits there are some challenges associated with making universal access available; therefore governments must find ways address cost related issues such as providing appropriate infrastructure or guaranteeing good teacher quality so students’ experience remains high despite being free of charge (Wang 2015). Nevertheless, considering the long term gains of offering free education worldwide is certainly worth exploring further.
