Reflections on Educational Psychology: Learning, Impact, and the Experience of Lecturing
This semester’s exploration of Educational Psychology has unveiled a fascinating world of understanding how individuals learn and grow. Reflecting on this journey, I am struck by how the acquired knowledge has subtly, yet significantly, impacted my approach to learning itself and how it might influence my future interactions with educational settings.
A Deeper Understanding of Learning:
One of the most impactful aspects of the course has been the emphasis on individual differences in learning. Prior to this, my understanding of learning was primarily shaped by personal experiences and observations. However, delving into cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and learning theories like constructivism has opened my eyes to the diverse ways individuals process information, build knowledge, and navigate the learning process. This newfound awareness fosters a more empathetic and adaptable approach to understanding and facilitating learning, regardless of the context.
Impact on Previous Assignments:
While the course content wasn’t directly applied to the assignments in Modules 1 and 2, the underlying principles of educational psychology have subtly influenced my perspective. Recognizing the importance of active learning and constructing knowledge through experience, I actively sought out additional resources and engaged in deeper reflection while completing those assignments. This growth mindset, nurtured by the course, has fostered a more engaged and self-directed approach to learning.
The Adventure of Lecturing:
The experience of creating and delivering a lecture was both challenging and rewarding. The preparation process proved invaluable, requiring me to delve deeper into a specific topic within educational psychology, synthesize information, and translate it into a clear and engaging presentation. While conveying complex concepts in a concise and understandable manner proved challenging, the positive feedback received from classmates acknowledging their increased understanding was highly motivating. However, I recognize areas for improvement.
