Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide example

Evidence-based practice is using evidence to make the best decisions about patient care while enhancing patient experience, providing quality and safe care, reducing costs, and empowering the healthcare team (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2023). For this discussion post, I chose the professional organization, the American Nurses Association. Evidence-based practice appears in the About section of the American Nurses Association website. The American Nurses Association (n.d.) states that they exist to advance the nursing profession by promoting high nursing practice standards, promoting a safe work environment, supporting the health and wellness of nurses, and advocating on health care issues; this shows alignment with the EBP quadruple aim. The American Nurses Association endorses Evidence-based Practice and provides resources on Evidence-based Practice for nurses on the ANA website. The American Nurses Association (n.d.) states how knowledge gained from evidence-based research in nursing influences standard nursing care policies. Quality research is vital to EBP, and the American Nurses Association supports some of the profession’s major scientific studies through research grants, which shows that the professional organization’s work is grounded on Evidence-based Practice. Nursing is constantly evolving, and research such as those funded by the American Nurses Association corrects the de-implementation of unnecessary practices when implementing evidence-based practices (Hunt et al., 2023). The information discovered has changed my perception of healthcare organizations and shown me the importance of supporting professional organizations. Organizations like the American Nurses Association support nurses and promote safe nursing practice and the best patient outcomes. For example, the American Nurses Association (n.d.) collaborates with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to allocate funding for innovative research and scientific inquiry on the contributions of nursing practice in ambulatory care to patient care, safety, and quality. Showing support through membership allows healthcare organizations to function, continue with research support, and support members’ professional growth.

“World Health Organization has suggested that health improvement in communities is dependent upon nursing services underpinned by evidence-based practice (EBP). EBP refers to using the best available evidence for decision-making and providing efficient and effective care for patients on a scientific basis. Systematic implementation of EBP can enhance healthcare safety and improve patient outcomes” (Li et al., 2019). EBPs have been proven to reduce healthcare costs, deliver high-quality healthcare, and improve patient outcomes.
Many professional nursing organizations support and encourage nurses to do more research and publish clinical research papers based on practical evidence. According to AANP (2019), The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is a professional organization for nurse practitioners (NP) and NP students through a paid membership. There are about 121,000 members, which provide up-to-date news on healthcare topics, advocacy at the national and state levels, and the resources needed for professional growth. “AANP serves as a robust resource for NPs and their practice and houses the only comprehensive database of NPs in the United States. Research at AANP is essential for understanding how NPs are shaping the future of healthcare” (AANP, 2019).
As an NP student, joining AANP will provide me with an opportunity to advance my nursing knowledge to provide high-quality care to patients from diversified communities through education, research, and leadership. I will have an opportunity to touch many patients’ lives and will be able to advocate for better patient outcomes, lower healthcare costs, and high-quality healthcare delivery. This professional organization provides a platform for networking with other NPs to share their clinical knowledge and skills. “The Collaborative Learning Network (CLN) is the first open forum offered by the AANP to facilitate social learning and networking. A platform for asynchronous and self-directed communication, the CLN supports learning through observation, discussion, and knowledge sharing between peers and faculty, contributing to a richer source of diverse perspectives” (Collaborative Learning Networ

Website Review: American Nurses Association

The American Nurses Association (ANA) website provides a comprehensive overview of the organization’s mission, vision, philosophy, and goals. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is prominently featured throughout the website, demonstrating the organization’s strong commitment to this approach to healthcare.

EBP in the ANA’s Mission, Vision, Philosophy, and Goals

The ANA’s mission statement clearly aligns with the principles of EBP: “To advance the nursing profession by promoting high nursing practice standards, promoting a safe work environment, supporting the health and wellness of nurses, and advocating on health care issues.” This statement emphasizes the importance of using evidence to guide nursing practice, ensuring safe and effective care for patients.

The ANA’s vision statement further reinforces the organization’s dedication to EBP: “A world where nursing is globally recognized and valued as a leading force for health and well-being.” This vision recognizes the impact of EBP on improving patient outcomes and advancing the nursing profession.

The ANA’s philosophy outlines the core values that guide the organization’s work, including “commitment to evidence-based practice.” This value underscores the importance of using research and evidence to inform nursing decisions and ensure the best possible care for patients.

Finally, the ANA’s goals specifically address the implementation of EBP, stating that the organization will “promote and support the use of evidence-based practice in nursing” and “develop and disseminate EBP resources and tools for nurses.”

EBP in Other Locations on the ANA Website

Beyond the mission, vision, philosophy, and goals, EBP is also prominently featured in other sections of the ANA website. For instance, the ANA provides a dedicated section on EBP, offering resources, educational materials, and guidelines for nurses on implementing EBP in their practice.

The ANA also highlights the work of nurses who are leading the way in EBP research and innovation. These examples showcase the practical application of EBP and inspire other nurses to adopt this approach.

Grounded in EBP

Based on the website’s content and the organization’s actions, it is evident that the ANA’s work is grounded in EBP. The ANA strongly promotes EBP principles, provides resources and support for nurses, and showcases success stories of nurses implementing EBP.

Impact on Perception

Reviewing the ANA website has further solidified my understanding of the importance of EBP in healthcare. It is clear that organizations like the ANA play a crucial role in promoting EBP and supporting nurses in adopting this approach.

The ANA’s commitment to EBP has reinforced my belief that EBP is essential for providing high-quality, safe, and effective care to patients. I am committed to incorporating EBP principles into my nursing practice and contributing to the advancement of EBP in the healthcare field.
