Scenario 1: Julia should utilize the UMGC’s library service. The “Ask a Librarian” link would be a great place for obtaining this information. There are also plenty of articles about research guidelines and even tips for searching Google Scholar via UMGC. I would expect these services to provide any student with ample information for locating scholarly articles for a research paper.

Scenario 2: Robert should utilize the Effective Writing Center (EWC). Within this link it offers plenty of writing related services. EWC offers students with an advising team that is available 24 hours a day for one-on-one answers to writing related questions. There is also an online guide to writing with links to research and multimedia resources. Students can find assessment checklists to help sketch out a research and writing plan.

Scenario 3: Tiffany should utilize UMGC’s no-cost individualized tutoring service. The tutoring centers also have explanatory videos and links to external websites. Tiffany is in luck because UMGC offers tutoring for Principles in Accounting I & II, and also Intermediate Accounting I & II.

Scenario 4: John would contact the Ombudsman Office. An ombudsperson would investigate and settle complaints. UMGC Ombuds Office is trained in conflict resolution and it is a neutral resource for staff, students, and faculty. You can contact the Ombuds Office any time to have someone listen to your concerns, for information about university policy, and help evaluating your situation.

If purchasing the software is not an option you can locate information about the Academic Center computer labs at Largo and Dorsey Station. Students may also find available computer labs in Arundel mills, Hagerstown, Laurel College Center, Shady Grove, and Waldorf.

Scenario 6: Kate needs to get familiar with Financial Aid. The UMGC website provides information on how to apply for financial aid and also has links to the necessary forms. There is an abundant of information on scholarship and FAFSA resources. In Kate’s situation she would contact UMGC’s central billing service center to receive assistance for support for third-party assistance.
