For the mid-level management position, there are three key knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) that must be possessed in order to be successful in this role.

In terms of Knowledge these include an understanding of principles related to human resource management such as recruiting and hiring practices as well as employee development or compensation regulations (“HR Manager Job Description” 2021). Additionally, it is also beneficial for applicants to have a firm grasp on applicable laws pertaining to employment such as those enforced by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) which prohibit discrimination based on race, sex or age amongst other factors (“Overview” 2021).

The second area relates to Skills; here candidates should demonstrate proficiency when it comes managing personnel both individually and collectively. This includes demonstrating effective communication strategies like active listening and problem solving along with having the capacity for multitasking during busy periods of time when numerous tasks may need completing simultaneously (“HR Manager Job Description” 2021). Finally, Abilities refer to qualities such as interpersonal traits which allow individuals to interact appropriately with co-workers while possessing a strong sense of motivation necessary for inspiring others within their team (Garofano & DeLong., 2018). Therefore these three KSAs provide potential employers with an idea of what they should look for when seeking out suitable candidates who will thrive in a management environment.
