Law enforcement today faces a rapid shifting landscape, with challenges on every front. The pace of change is increasing. Incidents go from local to national in seconds. And the ramifications can be lasting. New forms of crime, new technologies, and tense relationships with the communities are shifting the very nature of police work. Challenges that law enforcement agencies will be forced to address in the coming years: civil unrest; data focused law enforcement; emergency response technology; virtual and digital evidence; and office trauma. We know that a strong relationship between the police and the community is a key factor in attaining peace and security. Through effective police community relations, the citizens can learn about their roles in crime prevention and what to expect from the police.
